Shamu Soon to be Grandfather
SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash) Shamu the killer whale is about to become a proud grandfather. Keepers at SeaWorld in San Diego say Shamus daughter is pregnant and expect her to give birth to a bouncing baby killer whale as early as this month making this Shamus first grandchild. The birth will be a triumph for SeaWorld because the wee whale will be only the second killer whale calf born through artificial insemination. The first was its mother Shamus daughter 11-year-old Takara. Whale handlers wont know the sex of the whale until its born, so they havent picked out any names. A SeaWorld spokesman says a normal killer whale pregnancy lasts 17 months, and the calf weighs upwards of 400 pounds.
