Hello ... If you have signed up at InternetTrash, you are now ready to set up your home page. The name of your InternetTrash directory is your email address. You cannot make sub-directories, but you have plenty of web space (11 Mb). The next thing to do is submit your first home page file. The name of the file must be index.htm or index.html, and it must, of course, be in HTML format. If you don't know about HTML format, or if you don't have an HTML editor -- use the template in the next posting to this list. There will be more information soon about using email to obtain the resources you need. You should send InternetTrash three further items of information about your home page ... 1. An alias. This is optional, but very useful. For example, suppose your name is Fred Nurk and your email address is fred.nurk@university-of-transylvania.org. Your default home page URL is http://internettrash.com/users/fred.nurk@university-of-transylvania.org/ which is not what you want. By setting an alias, you can simplify your URL, and make it independent of your email address. So if you set your alias to frednurk, your URL can be http://internettrash.com/users/frednurk/. The alias may contain only alphanumeric characters. 2. A category. It is essential to choose a category from the InternetTrash list. By default, your category is 'people.newusers', but you must change it to something else - InternetTrash will delete your account if you don't. The full list of categories is long, tedious, and of doubtful significance. Sun Zoom Spark recommends that you set your category to 'people.normal', and leave it at that. 3. A title. Optional -- but you will definitely want to provide one. The title is a short text string which describes your web site. Alias, category and title may be changed at any time. Here are Sun Zoom Spark's current settings: alias: WebSiteByEmail category: people.normal title: Tutorial on creating an Internet presence by email-only methods Submitting a home page to InternetTrash.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Send an email To: posttrash@internettrash.com Subject: <anything> In the body of the message, insert these lines password: <your-password> alias: <your-alias> category: <your-category> title: <your-title> Your index page must be a MIME attachment to the email message. This is the point at which errors are most likely to occur. If the attachment is not encoded exactly as InternetTrash expects, it will not be recognised -- and you will get back a message saying no attachment was found. Fortunately, the default MIME encoding of most email programs works. The only exception I have come across (so far) is Pegasus. If you are a Pegasus user, do this ... * Click on the Encoding drop-down list. * Change the method from 'Mailer Decides' to 'Basic MIME'. Please report any other difficulties. The response from InternetTrash is usually rapid. It will tell you everything that has happened. -- http://209.236.159.6/users/WebSiteByEmail/
