Shaving Do's and Dont's

by Mickaela

I have started my shaving regime in earnest now that my wife knows, understands and helps me sort out who I think I am.

I shave my body twice weekly, at one time, trying to do it daily caused
all sorts of problems with my skin and ingrowns and bumps and rashes. Heres
my solution:

Comfortably hot shower first with a good rough loofa, and DEFOLIATE as
much  of the surface as you can. Entire body, legs, bum, arms, chest, back
and especially the shoulders.  This tends to remove the protective dead layer of skin cells and makes the hairs more reachable, and the heat tends to make them come to the surface easier.

Next, pat dry, don't rub as this may inflame your skin.

Now, apply generous quantities of anything with aloe in it, and rub it in firmly and completely.During this phase, I am cooling down and getting mentally prepared. Ensure you have a new blade in the razor and a spare available. One 'ding' againt the tub or the side of the shower and your blade is ruined.

Using Moistureizer shaving foam found in the depiliatry section of the drugstore, start your shave. I start with the legs, and work my way up, knees, thighs, bum, tum etc. Time for a razor check.

I draw mine accross my arm and if it feels rough, or simply no longer smooth, I replace it. All the time whilst shaving, rinse the razor in copious amount of VERY HOT water.

Finally my chest and my arms and armpits. Takes about an hour all
together.

For my face, I only use moisturizer, and a hot new blade. My results are getting better, and when I cannot go femme, (which is rare) I can last two to three days before it looks like I need a shave. A year ago, I had to shave my face every day!

The above sequence is not perfeect or guaranteed, but 9 times out of
ten it works for me. Sometimes, it doesn't and I get cuts, nicks, ingrowns and
rash, Oh well, that's life!

Tips, never rub dry, only pat.  Never short your self on moisturizer or foam, always have a fresh blade and an easy to reach spare.  Rinse the blade after every stroke in the hottest running water you can manage.

Dont apply make-up, perfume or anything for 30 minutes after the shave.  Give your skin time to heal.

Have a great day,

Mickaela
