MPEG Layer-3 Codec 293 KB 2 minutes Save file to disk
When you save it, save it as type "All Files (*.*)" and name it Mpgcom.exe

What is this?
This is what you can use to listen to the sound clips on this website, as well as any clips that have been compressed to MP3 but still have the WAV extension. What this means is that the file size is made dramatically smaller without losing hardly any of the quality. Let's say you have a CD quality song, about 3 minutes long. You can compress that with this codec and make it less than a megabyte. If you hadn't done this, you would have a 7 meg WAV sound. Get it?

If your computer doesn't already support this, you can download the installer from this site by clicking the link at the top of this page. Besides being able to hear clips already converted to this format, you can also convert them yourself by going through these steps:

To make a new sound and then convert it...
  1. Open a sound editing/playing program such as Windows Sound Recorder™ by going to Start menu > Programs > Accessories > Multimedia > Sound Recorder or typing SNDREC32 in the Run... box from the Start menu.
  2. Double-click the speaker in your taskbar. If there isn't one there, look below these steps to get it to show up there.
  3. Go to Options > Properties and select Recording and click OK.
  4. Check the box by the source you want to record with and set the volume to whatever you want.
  5. Go back to Sound Recorder and record your sound.
  6. Go to File > Properties > Convert Now... and select MPEG Layer-3 from the Format menu and select 24 kBit/s, 22,050 KHz, Mono from the Attributes menu for the type that I use, but you can choose whatever Attributes you want. After you're done, click Save As... and save it as something like MPEG Encoding or something, it doesn't matter. Then click OK.
  7. There should be a box showing the conversion process and soon you'll be finished. Then click OK to hear your sound. Be sure to SAVE it!
If you didn't see the speaker, do this: In Sound Recorder, go to Edit > Audio properties and check the box that says Show volume control in the taskbar and click OK. Shade Products | Shades | Blinds | Bank Foreclosures Online | Beaded Necklace
