The Punkhouse Interviews: Dirt Bike Annie |
1. Name, place of origin, credit card #s?
Jeanie: Dirt Bike Jeanie, born in a small Korean village.
Adam: Dirt Bike Adam, city of brotherly love, I can't even get approved for a Discover card.
Deano: Dirt Bike Deano, Los Angeles California, 5631-8810-3910-0426.
Dan: Dirt Bike Daniel, esq., born in Boston 5/2/76 - Daniel Paquin.
2. How long have you been a band and how did you get that purty little name?
Deano: Officially, the top of '96.
Adam: yup, but with the current line up, since '97 or '98, I don't really know. It's all kind of a blur.
Jeanie: For the full DBA story, check our website:
http://hometown.aol.com/DBA411/index.html3. What do you enjoy most about being in a pop punk band?
Jeanie: The free beer!
Deano: All the young ladies!
Adam: The shows.
Dan: It's good time Rock Music and it's fun to play.4. What do you hate most about being in a pop punk band?
Dan: the hangovers.
Deano: Dan's B.O.
Jeanie: Not being punk enough.
Adam: Forgetting the T-shirts.5. How do you go about writing those "oh so catchy" songs?
Deano: Well, I just tell Adam what to write, and he does it.
Adam: Ha! In the shower.
Jeanie: Just listen to bands we like and borrow, borrow, borrow!6. Where do you see DBA in a few years?
Deano: Playing bigger basements
Jeanie: On VH-1's Behind the Music.
Dan: We'll be Total Rock Stars...or poverty stricken.
Adam: Hopefully there'll be a DBA video game and cartoon series kinda like The Mighty Heroes.7. The new CD seems to be a huge breakthrough for the band. Were there any certain influences of new songwriting techniques used to help make this masterpiece?
Jeanie: Getting married had an influence on some of the writing.
Dan: The CD's about growing up and the changes that we were all going through, like moving out of our old apartment, 88 Christopher Street. Hit the Rock! is a bit more complex than previous DBA releases, but it's still rockin' and fun.
Deano: I love you, but the secret ingredient is just growing closer as friends.
Adam: We recorded this record on 24 tracks, so before we went in to the studio, we spent a lot of time planning and writing you know, I'd be like, "we should put castanets in this part," and Jean would be like, "No way we need maracas there." And Dan would start shaking his vibraslap in Deano's face and pulling his shirt up. We can get kinda crazy when we work together.8. Your past 2 releases have been on Mutant Pop records. At this point do you have any upcoming releases planned on MP or other labels?
Dan: We'll probably do a single this fall with MP. We've got some songs left over from the Hit the Rock! session.
Adam: There's a label called Kickball that wants to do a CD ep with us. I think that will be pretty cool. There's also a Break-Up Records compilation in the works. All the breakup bands are giving one song from their Break-Up single and one from another source. More CDs would be cool. I want to do a picture disc at some point.9. Who are some of your favorite bands and/or influences?
Dan: Pixies, OPIV, MTX, WEEZER, RAMONES, RFTC.
Jeanie: The Rentals, RFTC, early Chisel
Adam: Doctor Who, Chocolate Surgery, The Boy Scouts
Deano: 98 Degrees, Back Street Boys, Black Sabbath.10. Are there any dark secrets that you want people to know about?
Jeanie: HELL NO!
Adam: Man, my life is an open book. I've got no secrets.
Dan: I haven't had sex since October of 1998.
Deano: I can't stop touching my danger zone.11. What did you think about the new Star Wars movie? Are any of you Star Wars fans?
Dan: It was a little disappointing, cool special effects though. All in all it was a little cold. I'm a huge fan of the trilogy.
Deano: It just goes to show that you can have more money than God and still fuck up a movie.
Jeanie: I'm boycotting it.
Adam: I was boycotting it. There was so much hype that I knew if I went to see it I'd feel scammed. But last weekend my neighbor loaned me his bootleg video copy the kind with people in the theatre getting up to go to the bathroom and clapping for parts. The sound quality was so bad that I could barely understand what all the hologram people and Aliens were saying, but the plot was simple enough that I could still follow it.12. Do any of you collect anything?
Adam: As a kid I used to save all my old Band-Aids, but not much since then.
Jeanie: Dog hair.
Deano: V.D., lint, and dust.
Dan: Trash cans with flip top lids?13. Aside from being full time dirt bike annies, where do you work?
Dan: I'm a Temp.
Deano: I wait tables at Cafe Wha?, A night club on MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village.
Adam: I donate my body to medical research studies.
Jeanie: I work in a law office- er- I'm a lawyer, yeah.14. Who is annie and why does she like dirt bikes?
Adam: ?
Jeanie: ?
Deano: ?
Dan: It's pretty obvious if you ever saw the movie! "It's a hard knock life!"15. Any last words to the legions of DBA fans out there?
Deano: Thanks! Rock ON!
Jeanie: Wishing you the best of rock!
Dan: Punk Rock 4-evah!! (making a heavy metal sign with his hand)
Adam: Hit the rock, don't smoke it!
