January 3, 2000 Out of Africa. I have the day off today. I didn't sleep in though, because Adam didn't have the day off. Poor guy. Right when I was about to leave to get my coffee and bagel, my father called and told me my cousin was just deported. Only Josh, my favorite cousin, could end up in a situation like that. A few years ago, he married an Indian girl from Namibia, who lived in America at the time. Now, they lived in Namibia with their two children. He's a big child. This man shouldn't have a family right now, he has too much life, and he needs someone who matches that. But such is life. We make the choices we make. Apparently, they passed through a checkpoint and Josh's visa wasn't up to date. Hew as thrown in jail, and the only way they wouldl et him out was if he left the country. Leaving his wife and children, who are citizens. This is harsh. On the other side of the coin, my father and I don't think their marriage has been right for almost as soon as it began. We have a theory that this is a cover story for a hasty getaway on his part. The whole situation was off. We'll find out tomorrow, because he'll get in from Johanssabberg(?) early morning. He'd tell my father and I before he'd tell his mother. We're his family here, I think, more than anyone else. My father raised him, and I love him like a brother. My heart is aching for him right now, I can't begin to understand how it must feel to be separated from my family like that.
