Well, I just read the "American Beauty" on Toast.
I could not possibly agree more. I DID see the movie,
and it was "good" but no more than "good." Perhaps
3/10 of the hype "good." My major complaint with it
was that it was essentially a long movie that depended
entirely on one gimick. A relatively creative gimick,
and perhaps a gimick worth seeing on video, but
certainly not a "best picture" gimick, especially when
compared to such truly inspired and endlessly deep
films like "being John Malkovich" and "Cider House Rules."
Films which I considered to be the true contenders.
It was essentially too much form, not enough substance.
And more fasionably good than actually good. That's my
72 cents. I'm goin' to bed.
