"Some Numbers"

The Massachusetts College of Art offers housing for 196 students.
Of these, 56 spaces are reserved for returning students.

MassArt rents space from Simmons College, which houses only female students. Smith Hall, which it owns in full, houses 12 returning female students, and 20 returning male students....
Returning students select their rooms in a housing lottery. They are each assigned a random number, which decides the order in which they may choose. This writer has received number 60.

The estimated number of returning students applying for housing is more than 70.

Coed living arrangements are not allowed on campus.
If the number of slots available for returning students reflects the demand, by percentage of males and females and percentage of male and female slots available (which is highly unlikely), then approximately 6/7 (about 48) of the students in the housing lottery will have to be female in order for a male with selection number 60 to get on-campus housing. The Boston housing market is notoriously overpriced, but it's 11:18 on a Tuesday night, and I haven't found any statistics to back that statement up. Shouldn't have blown my evening on the pie chart.... It's a nice pie chart, though. Archive: :Archive About the S.T.P.
