If I were you, I would just do what seems logical. if your schedual is to tight, it will just be to calculated. Be more random, that's the idee about a lot of encounters in every adventure. Be creative. When you think they should meet a patrol, just let them meet them. There are enough solutions for the party to get out of even de dangered situations
To thwart the characters, I let the curse from the Island of shadows tke it's full effect when they eneterd the shrine at the home of the Raveners. Other options are, just to pursue them alot and don't spare them. A group of aboleth is a very dangerous enemy to be chased by.
