Just to let you know my party finally went after the Shadow Dragon. The only reason they did it was I mentioned there was a lot of treasure there. They got their butts kicked. The two sorcerers saved them at first with a Energy Transformation spell that sucked up the negative energy breath weapon. The attacks by the fighters did not once hit the dragon. The dragon bit one of the fighters who had been wounded before with a critical hit, killed him, cleaved through to the next and killed the next fighter also. I clawed the remaining rogue pretty badly. At this point the sorcerers teleported everyone out of there. The shadow dragon took no damage from the encounter.
I have not figured out a strategy for the dragon if or when the players make another attempt. I might have the dragon spend time hiding in the pool of water and keeping the quasit familiar on guard. Any ideas?
This event plus the inability to assault the City of the Glass Pool has halted the campaign temporarily. One of the players who runs a cleric, has created a Remove Stun spell which works something like a Remove Fear spell except against stun effects. He hopes to counter the mind flayers with this.
The party has not met the Rockseers yet either because they have not gotten passed the shadow dragon. I think if they met with them, they would better their chances with the city assault. I am considering having the Rockseers kidnap the person who possesses the lifestone along with a half-elf. This way they can skip the shadow dragon.
: Let the Dragon mirror image itself a lot of times and blast them to the ground with his most effective breathweapon. For Roleplaying: Not very much suggestions here, they killed him before they started to talk. They had an agreement with the behir who turned against them afterwards.

: : My party is switching gears on me and is going after the Shadow Dragon. They have knocked off the Behir already and two of the party met the dragon, but they don't know what kind of dragon it is. Has anyone ran this encounter using 3E rules? If so, any advice on how to run the dragon?
