Actually the illithids are probably keeping tabs on the PC at this point.
Scrying, spys and runnaway monsters have probably told them of the terrible sword.
What would the Illithids do? It depends on how you've set them up in your NB campaign. In mine they have been fooled by the Aboleth into thinking they wouldn't be affected by the Crystal and are planning to overtake the tower once it is completed.
So they would probably keep finslayer for their own spawns when they attack Deep Shabaoth.
Or, they would send the PC the Aboleths' way, by using a middleman (false derro renegade, etc) that points them in the right direction and gives them the sword saying only it can defeat the aboleth queen, etc. Knowing full well that the PC's aren't up to the task, but will soften the aboleth for them...
Just a thought.
PS How in the nine hells did the Koa Toa manage to get Finslayer from the PC's?
