Springrain
- There's nothing as refreshing as a Spring Rain -
The Rotterdam-based Spring Rain consists of members of the in the hardcore/punkscene well known bands Crivits, Deuce and Raise Kain. In a very short period of time the foursome has achieved so much that's some extra attention is well deserved. I spoke to Gareth (guitar / vocals) who explains how it all started.
"Because we've been doing the harder music for so long now, we wanted to do something different. I very much liked bands like Texas is The Reason, which now, together with Quicksand, is our main influence. Coincidentally I met up with Edwin and Sammy from the Crivits who also wanted to do something like that. We're still making hardcore, but with lots of modest parts and as much emotions squeezed in as possible. Well, emorock, it's a nasty word, but something like that, I guess...
The name Spring Rain was already there before I was with the band. They said: "There's nothing as refreshing as a Springrain."
Springrain now exists little over a year and in the mean time they've been playing quite a lot of gigs, among which a tour through Germany and Belgium with the Swedish band Last Days of April. Through this band they also wound up on a Swedish label, Better Communications Records. This month (February 2000) their first 7" "Tomorrow, That Will be the Day" will be released.
How is it possible the band attained so much already? "By playing in different bands before, of course we have a little bit of experience. Also the fact that Sammy and Edwin are in the Crivits has helped us. I noticed that especially when we were in Germany, we played for crowded houses and everybody knew the Crivits." says Gareth.
Also in the near future there's a lot happening. "I'd like to release a full-length and play and tour a lot.
In April we have a tour through Norway, Sweden, Denmark and a piece of Germany in prospect. And this summer we're probably gonna tour some more for a couple of weeks with Last Days of April."
