Cruel

Give me a cruel word
but why stop at one or two?
They curl around your lips like snakes,
your well aimed splinters
delving underneath my skin.
Not so hard as you thought
not what you desired,
I suppose.
Let me turn back clocks
and make myself distant,
bring out that shell
and climb right in.
But then you're still not happy,
never satisfied with how I bend
to match your eyes
or the words whipping
past your soulless smile.
Didn't you know? I never break.
So you can be cruel
I'll still be right here.
