In 1992, Marvel Comics broke ground on its newest line of books, Marvel 2099. The original line up consisted of Spider-Man 2099, The Punisher 2099, Ravage 2099, and Doom 2099. The line did well enough to deserve more books. Future versions of The Hulk, Ghost Rider, and The X-Men became part of the line. Towards the end two more new series became part of the futurverse, Fantastic Four 2099, and X-Nation 2099.
The line did well until January 1996. At that time us 2099 fans on America Online heard terrible news from 2099 Line Editor Joey Cavalieri and Assitant Editor Lia Pelosi. The news was that they had been fired from Marvel Comics, and that the entire 2099 line was soon to come to an end. We were all devasted. To make things worse the line was indeed cancelled with all the series finishing out their runs with new creative teams (The Old Teams left in the wake of Joey and Lia's firing).
