Many as I, wonder how on earth Stan Lee, the co-creator of Spiderman and Fantastic Four, and the same man who has worked for Marvel comics most of his life, can go on to work for DC comics, Marvel's top rival. To think that anyone could be so selfish to leave their own company, which they saved many times with their own creations many times, could just leave their company seems pretty indignant.
The year, 1998, the place, Marvel offices, the scare in everyone's face, Marvel's layoffs. After Marvel began to die off in 1998, Toy Biz soon came to own the company. Trying to find a way to keep Marvel alive, and able to produce a profit, they began to layoff employee after employee. After seeing one of the employee's seven digit annual suml; Stan Lee, a man who did not produce any constant comic, and had limited work, they soon began to see where all of the company's profit was going. Toy Biz lowered Stan the Man's salary by giving him only eight hours a week to work and totally rewriting his whole contract. Producer Michael Uslan jumps on this chance. A few years prior to this occurance Uslan sees Stan at a movie opening. He, surprised to meet one of his long admired role-models, walks over to Lee and begins to talk to him. While in the conversation, the idea of Stan working for DC. Stan admits that he would not mind doing some sort of work for them, but reminds Uslan of his contract with Marvel, and asks which comics he might work on. Uslan leaves the conversation thinking about Stan Lee working on old famous DC comics like Wonder Woman and Batman. Even after leaving Stan for a while, the thoughts of changing the comic industry as we know it could not leave his mind. Stan gets the call, offering a job from DC, which was suggested by Uslan, and greatfly Stan replies with a yes. It's set, Stan is ready to begin working for DC in the start of 2001. In all this, the people at Marvel, his friends who he has worked with for many years, are very happy for him, even though they will miss their co-worker. Meanwhile, at DC, the celbrations are beginning. In all of this, one might disagree with Stan's choice of leaving Marvel, but when one hears the whole story, you have to agree, if you were in Stan's shoes, wouldn't you leave Marvel to work on Wonder Woman and others, that you had been dreaming of working on for years?
