I'm a big fan of collage...not the kind where you cut out entire pictures and paste them down on a big honking piece of poster board, and no, I'm not talking about "college" for those of you with spelling issues. The type of collage that I do usually involves breaking down an image into planes of color, texture, and tone. I usually make the materials I collage with myself, by painting pieces of paper. I also use interesting patterns that I find in magazines, newspaper, foil, cardboard, and various sorts of paper; basically, whatever I feel like throwing in that will give me the look that I am going for.
Recently, I have been doing a lot of collage using fairly monochromatic materials. Most of my current pieces use browns, blacks, and whites, but a few have a random swatch of color or some metallic element thrown in. Some others are actually pretty colorful, though, and I'm always exploring new possibilities. Hmmm...I wonder how I got on this black white and brown kick...kinda unusual in the scope of the rest of my work...
Some of the pieces here are purely collage, others contain elements of drawing or painting.
