I've been drawing since before I can remember...I used to draw hot air balloons outside my house when I was three, and apparently my first recognizable drawing was of a clown when I was around a year and a half old. Not that all that makes me any artsier or fartsier than the average person, I just think it's funny that I've been doing this for so long. So, what do I draw? I've done a lot of commissioned portraits of horses in pencil, even though I'm not really into the realism that portraiture requires.
Left to my own devices, I tend to do a lot of abstract work, mostly in oil pastel. I also really like to draw with random objects that are lying around, like highlighters and ink droppers. I've just started doing stuff in charcoal, although I have to say that it is not my strong point. I still do a lot of work in pencil, especially when I am travelling because it requires a minimal amount of supplies.
My subjects vary widely...hmmm...I guess I should find a theme and develop that all-important "cohesive body of work" that art schools look for in an application. I guess if I had to pick a theme to describe my work, it would be random scenes from everyday life and abstract depictions of emotions. I usually don't set up the environment that I am drawing from, unless I'm doing a self-portrait. I like to try and capture a feeling of time and place in a drawing, I guess sort of like a visual diary of my experiences.
Thus, some of my work is kind of personal/angry/upsetting--if you don't like it, or don't understand it, don't worry, art is subjective. I won't be offended if you prefer happy little clouds and trees to my work. Anyway, I hope you enjoy...
