Love Styles

There are 6 different "styles" of love.  Number your paper from 1-18, and keep track of your score for EACH QUESTION (if you just keep track of total points, it won't work...make sure you write your answer next to the right numbered question).  This is a real psychological test that was created by a psychologist named Lee in the early 1970s.  I'll tell you how to score it (and what it means) on the next page, so don't look until you finish.  Have fun!

Directions:  Some of the items refer to a specific love relationship, while others refer to general attitudes and beliefs about love.  Whenever possible, answer the questions with your current partner in mind.  If you have never been in love, answer in terms of what you think your responses would most likely be.  Indicate your answer by putting the appropriate number in the space in front of each item using the five point scale below.

1 = Strongly Disagree
2 = Moderately Disagree
3 = Neutral
4 = Moderately Agree
5 = Strongly Agree

___ 9) I am usually willing to sacrifice my own wishes to let my lover achieve his/hers.

___ 10) My lover fits my ideal standards of physical beauty/handsomeness.

___ 11) I believe that what my lover doesn't know about me won't hurt him/her.

___ 12) I enjoy playing the "game of love" with a number of different partners.

___ 13) Our friendship merged gradually into love over time.

___ 14) A main consideration in choosing a lover is how he/she reflects on my family.

___ 15) One consideration in choosing a partner is how he/she will reflect on my career.

___ 16) When my lover doesn't pay attention to me, I feel sick all over.

___ 17) I cannot be happy unless I place my lover's happiness before my own.

___ 18) I would endure all things for the sake of my lover.
