Where I live, in St. John's NF, Canada, we have an unusual holiday - Regetta Day. If the weather is fine, the Regetta goes ahead and the city has a civic holiday. So you have to listen to the radio that morning to see if you have the day off. With that in mind my old buddy Paul and I created a tradition known as "Regetta Roulette". We'd go downtown the night before Regetta day, drink our faces off and hope the Regetta wouldn't be cancelled. For about 8 years straight it went ahead on schedule. Then a few years ago I got up after about 3 hours of drunken sleep to listen to the radio and heard the wind and rain on my window. I thought "Uh-oh, that ain't good." I listened to the radio for a few minutes and got the bad news; the Regetta was cancelled and I'd have to go in to work. I managed to make it in about and hour late and went over to Paul's desk. I was sick but he was in worse shape than me. He was green around the face, dying hungover. I said "I guess the Regetta revolver has gone off". That was the longest day of my life. Of course the next year we were downtown loaded again talking about how sick we were a year ago and hoping for the best this year.
