Several years ago, upon returning to university, we all decided we'd be better off renting a house together rather than 2 or 3 apartments. So we found a deadly place on 81 Sinclair Ave; near the bus routes, grocery stores and most importantly a beer store. We signed the lease, paid the first month's rent and damage deposit and moved in. For the next 9 months it was party central. The house was rocking about 3 nights a week and every weekend. Sometimes the crowds would be small and sometimes the house would be jammed. One particular night there was about 25 of us on the roof drinking and dancing. We loved it. While we were there anywhere between 6 and 14 people could be found living there. The regulars had their own bed but we often had guests for a few weeks who slept on the floor or the couch. The time finally came when the school year was over and we were moving back home for the summer. We packed up our stuff, cleaned up as best we could and returned the keys to the landlord. A few days later we called him and asked for our damage deposit back. He was freaking. He said he had an appraiser in looking at the house and found out it would take about $3000 to repair it. He had a 2-page list of things that had to be fixed before he could rent it again. Then he said, "Give your damage deposit back! You're lucky I don't take you all to court."
