The Last "Last Call"

I'm sure everybody has been to a birthday party or a housewarming party but I bet not many people have been to a closing-down-a-bar party. The bar we frequented was closing down so on the last night the owner had an invitation-only party to, as he put it, "drink whatever's left in the place". Only the regulars were asked and fortunately that included me. There was free pool, music, food and all the booze you could drink. Just walk in behind the bar and get whatever you wanted. It was like something you dream of. The first stuff we worked on was the beer. We got to try brands of beer we hadn't had before, first the good stuff and then the Lite Beer. Then we moved on the liquor. There was many a "I think I'll make a Manhattan" or "I think I'll try a Zombie". By the time we got through the liquor only the real booze hounds were left standing and we were getting well on. Then it was on to the next class of drinks - the liqueurs. There wasn't a big quantity of those so we just put the whole works in a big pitcher, mixed it up and passed it around. Not too many attempted that drink. By now it was about 4 in the morning and we were had just about everything gone. Even the big bottle of green liquor nobody ever asked for was empty. And finally there was only one thing left to drink. The lowest class of booze there is, the least desirable drink of them all, the drink nobody wanted to drink. I'm talking about the non-alcoholic beer. We figured "it looks like beer, it tastes like beer, there's SOME alcohol in it, so what the hell" we downed that stuff too. We swayed out of there with the sunrise about 6 o'clock or so and headed home.

I'm sure everybody's had a hangover after a birthday party or a housewarming party but I bet not many people have had a hangover like you'd get from a closing-down-a-bar party. Mixing different types of drinks is not good the next day - but I'd do it all again.
