Tanthalas
"Tanis" Half-Elven
Tanis Half-Elven was born in the year 258 AC, son of Elansa Kanan, sister to the Speaker
of the Suns, Solostaran, and a human rogue who raped her. Solostaran raised Tanis with his
children, but he was always an outcast as he was a half-elf. While still young, Tanis met
Flint Fireforge, a hill dwarf residing in Qualinost as well. After leaving Qualinesti
together, Tanis became one of the fames Heroes of the Lance, an honorary Solamnic Knight,
wife of Laurana Kanan and father of Gilthas. Tanis was slain by the Knights of Takhisis,
defending the High Clerist's Tower in 383 AC.
Flint Fireforge
Born in 212 AC in Hillhome, the Khalkist Mountains, Flint Fireforge is the oldest of the
Companions. During his younger days, Flint was an artisan in residence in Qualinesti,
commissioned by Solostaran to work his art in carvings and metalworking. There he met
Tanis Half-Elven, and the two outcasts of elven society became friends. They left
Qualinesti, and Flint took up residence in Solace where he became a surrogate father to
the Majere brothers. Flint died making the journey to Neraka with the Companions during
the War of the Lance. He sits by a tree near Reorx's forge in the sky, carving and waiting
for a 'doorknob of a kender' to join him.
Tasslehoff Burrfoot
Tas was born in Kendermore, the nephew of Uncle Trapspringer, a hero of kender folklore.
While travelling during his Wanderlust, Tas ended up in Solace with one of Flint's
metalworking pieces in his pouches. Tanis caught the kender, and the three became friends
for the remainder of their lives. Always fearless and able to look on
the bright side of any situation, Tas was never at a loss for telling a good story to
anyone who might listen. Tas was killed in the battle with Chaos during the Second
Cataclysm, and is honored at the Last Heroes' Tomb. Coincidentally, many kender now claim
to have an 'Uncle Tas.'
Caramon Majere
Caramon was born in AC 335 in Solace, older brother to his twin, Raistlin. Caramon was
well liked by everyone, and became a force to be reckoned with, being very good at sword
fighting. He always patronized Raistlin, though the two adventured together during their
young adulthood. As one of the Heroes of the Lance, Caramon's Inn of the Last Home has
become world famous. He and Tika, his wife, are the parents of five children.
Raistlin Majere
Born shortly after his twin, Caramon, Raistlin was always a sickly child. Disliked by most
other children of Solace, Raistlin was a loner, preferring magic to swordplay. He was
enrolled in a magical school and there became the youngest wizard to ever take the Test.
The wounds he received there--golden skin and hourglass eyes--have affected him
tremendously. Switching from the Red to Black Robes, Raistlin challenged Fistandantilus
and became the Master of Past and Present, powerful enough to challenge the Dark Queen and
win. Raistlin left the world with the gods after the second Cataclysm.
Sturm Brightblade
Sturm was the son of a Solamnic lord, displaced by marauding commoners in the years after
the Cataclysm. He became a companion of Tanis, Flint and the Majere brothers while living
in Solace. Always acting the part of the Knight--though he was not much of the time, a
newly Knighted Sturm led the Knights of Solamnia in the defense of the High Clerist's
Tower during the Blue Dragonarmy's attack in the War of the Lance. Though the battle was
won, Sturm was slain by the Blue Lady, and buried beneath the Tower, the greatest hero of
the Knights since Huma Dragonbane.
Goldmoon, Princess of
Que-Shu
Chieftain's Daughter was the High Priestess of Que-Shu, until she received a vision from
her mother to find the True Gods. With the aid of the Companions she and her husband,
Riverwind, recovered the Blue Crystal Staff of Mishakal during the early days of the War
of the Lance, restoring people's faith in the true gods of Krynn. After the war, she and
Riverwind rebuilt Que-Shu and became parents of three children: Wanderer, Brightdawn and
Moonsong. Goldmoon discovered mysticism after the second cataclysm and founded an order of
mystics on the Isle of Schallsea.
Riverwind the Plainsman
Riverwind is the grandson of Wanderer, who was the grandson of a priest of Mishakal and
the daughter of a Knight of Solamnia who survived the Cataclysm. Riverwind won Goldmoon's
hand and completed a horrible quest to prove his worthiness to marry her. Riverwind is
perhaps best known for his tracking abilities, and his ability to successfully complete
difficult and dangerous quests into enemy territory. Riverwind and his younger daughter,
Brightdawn, were killed leading a kender army against Malystyrx.
Lauranalanthalasa
(Laurana) Kanan
Born in 278 AC, Laurana is the youngest child of the Speaker of the Suns. She and her
childhood playmate Tanis were secretly betrothed shortly before Tanis left Qualinesti with
Flint Fireforge. When he returned during the War of the Lance, Laurana followed the
Companions to Pax Tharkas where she learned what it meant to adventure. She became the
Golden General, leading Whitestone armies against the Dragon Highlords and contributing to
the defeat of the Dark Queen. She and Tanis were later married, and have a son Gilthas,
who is Speaker of the Suns--albeit a puppet of the Knights of Takhisis.
Tika Waylan Majere
Tika was the adopted daughter of Otik, owner of the Inn of the Last Home before the War of
the Lance. Teased by Caramon about her homely looks, that changed when she joined the
Companions during the War of the Lance, after which she and Caramon were married and
became the proprietors of the Inn.
Villains in the War of the Lance
Kitiara Uth Matar
Kitiara is the half-sister of the Majere brothers. Her father, a mercenary Knight of
Solamnia, deserted her mother when she was young. She raised Caramon and Raistlin almost
by herself. Kitiara is better known as the Blue Lady, the leader of the Blue Dragonarmy in
the War of the Lance. She died fighting Dalamar the Dark while trying to capture Palanthas
from the Knights of Solamnia.
Emperor Ariakas
The Emperor of Ansalon. Ariakas was Takhisis's favorite general during the War of the
Lance. Ariakas was the leader of the Red Dragonarmy, high commander of all the
Dragonarmies, as well as a cleric of the dark goddess. Ariakas was killed by Tanis
Half-Elven at the corrupted Temple of Istar in Neraka.
Highlord Verminaard
Verminaard is a cleric of the Dark Queen as well. He commanded the wing of the Red
Dragonarmy which captured Abanasinia in the first years of the War of the Lance.
Verminaard died in a pitched battle against Caramon Majere, Riverwind the Plainsman, Sturm
Brightblade and Tanis Half-Elven at Pax Tharkas.
Fewmaster Toede
Fewmaster Toede was the chief of the hobgoblin forces occupying Solace immediately before
the War of the Lance. Toede died hunting kender when he was tricked and had a fateful
encounter with a green dragon.
Bakaris
Bakaris was Kitiara Uth Matar's lieutenant (and lover) while in the Blue Dragonarmy. He
was captured by the Golden General, but released when Kitiara threatened Tanis
Half-Elven's life. Bakaris died shortly thereafter, upon falling out of favor with the
Lady.
Hederick the Theocrat
The Theocrat was the high Seeker priest in Solace immediately preceding the War of the
Lance. Hederick ordered the capture of the Companions which led to many misadventures for
him, including being shipped off to the Dragonarmy's mines at Pax Tharkas, where he
perished.
Highbulp Phudge I
Phudge I is the epitome of what any gully dwarf king should be: cowardly, ugly and
sinister. Phudge warned the black dragon Onyx of the Companions desire to steal part her
treasure in Xak Tsaroth.
Legendary Villains
Lord Soth
Lord Soth was a Knight of the Rose, one of the highest of his order, who forsook his
position through the murder of his wife after seducing an elven cleric. When she
discovered what the gods planned for Krynn, she prayed to Paladine to grant Soth the power
to stop the Cataclysm. Lord Soth forsook his quest for because of jealous notions planted
in his head by elven clerics he met on his way to Istar. Upon returning to Dargaard Keep
on the Night of Doom, he entered the castle as the fiery
mountain struck Krynn, killing his wire and child--but not before she cursed him for his
treachery. Lord Soth now roams Krynn as a death knight; his men at arms are now his legion
of undead. Soth served the Blue Lady, taking her soul upon her death to accompany him
throughout eternity.
Rennard the Oathbreaker
The uncle of Huma was a Knight of the Rose in pre-Cataclysmic times. Rennard was a victim
of the plague, bartering with Morgion to save his life. In return, Rennard relinquished
his soul and became a cleric of Morgion, poisoning the Grand Master of the Knights during
the Third Dragon War. Rennard was killed in a duel with Huma Dragonbane, only to be
consumed with the plague for failing his dark god.
Gargath
Gargath managed to capture the Graygem and harness its wild magic. His tower was laid
siege to by the gnomes in an effort to recover the gem for Reorx. It is said that the gem
escaped and transformed the armies of gnomes into kender, dwarves and gnomes.
Galan Dracos
A renegade mage during the Third Dragon War, Dracos was the Dark Queen's servant. Dracos's
ambition was to open a gateway and allow Takhisis to enter the world, which he succeeded
in doing. Dracos was destroyed by Huma Dragonbane when the Knight threw Magius's staff
into the crystal sphere, which was the source of Dracos's power.
Kingpriest of Istar
The Kingpriest was truly an evil human. While claiming to be the most righteous person on
earth, the Kingpriest persecuted everyone who did not follow his edicts and wishes to the
fullest extent. When he called upon Paladine to transform him into a god, the Cataclysm
occurred. The Kingpriest died when the Firey Mountain fell on him.
Lorac Caladon
The Speaker of the Stars ordered his people to flee Silvanesti, for the elven king
believed he could save the forest by himself. Calling upon the powers of a dragon orb
which he rescued from Istar before the Cataclysm, Lorac transformed Silvanesti into a
nightmare. He died when the Companions broke his twisted dream, which was the only thing
keeping him alive at that point.
Heroes of Yesteryear
Huma Dragonbane
Perhaps the most famous Knight of Solamnia, Huma was a simple Knight of the
Crown. However, through his pureness of heart, he became Paladine's chosen
discovered the legendary dragonlance, which won the war for the forces of good. Astride
the silver dragon, Heart, who was Huma's lover, the two fought the Dark Queen in battle
and forced her to return to the Abyss from whence she came. Unfortunately, both Knight and
dragon were killed in the battle.
Silvanos
Under Silvanos, the tribes of elves were first united in the forest of Silvanesti.
Silvanos was the great elven statesman and general, forming Houses out of the tribes and
founding the city of Silvanost. Silvanos became the first Speaker of the Stars.
Kith-Kanan
Grandson of Silvanos, Kith-Kanan was leader of the Wildrunners, the main force of the
Silvanesti Elves fighting in the Kinslayer war. The younger of twin brothers, Kith-Kanan
disagreed with the Silvanesti position on the 'pureness' of their race and took all elves
of a similar mind set with him to Qualinesti. He became the first Speaker of the Suns, and
his greatest accomplishment as such was the construction of Pax Tharkas with the help of
the dwarves.
Balif the Kender
Balif was Silvanos's most trusted lieutenant. Not much is known of Balif, save that he is
sometimes referred to as an elf and sometimes as a kender (who lived an exceptionally long
life). Most likely, Balif was transformed from an elf to a kender by the passing of the
Graygem.
Vinas Solamnus
Vinas Solamnus was one of the commanders of the armies of the Ergoth Empire. He was
ordered to squash a rebellion in the northeastern reaches of the Empire, which he set out
to do. Upon studying the rebels' cause, however, Solamnus deserted and led his army
against the Ergothian Empire's other commanders. Ergoth surrendered, ceding the
territories to the north and east to Solamnus. This land became known as Solamnia, and
Solamnus founded the Knights of Solamnia, according to the edicts of Paladine, Kiri-Jolith
and Habbakuk.
Kharas
Kharas, or "knight" in dwarven, is perhaps the most famous warrior of the
Dwarfgate War. Kharas fought for the Mountain dwarves, though he was seen crying on the
battlefield as he slew his enemies, grieving for them. The Hammer of Kharas is a replica
of Reorx's, and was the symbol which was to unite the dwarven thanedoms underneath a
single ruler. The Hammer was rediscovered by the Companions during the War of the Lance.
Magius
A childhood friend of Huma's, Magius was a powerful renegade magic user who
fought for the side of good. He was destroyed by Galan Dracos during the Third Dragon War
when he ran out of spells and could not defend himself further. This is why magic-users on
Krynn are now permitted the use of a dagger. The Staff of Magius was taken by the Conclave
and given to Raistlin Majere following his Test of High Sorcery.
Derkin Lawgiver
Derkin Lawgiver was the unknown heir to the throne, trapped in Ergothian mines, was the
first king of Thorbardin. After uniting the thanes to drive out the Ergothians, he signed
the Swordsheath Scroll and assisted Kith-Kanan in the building of Pax Tharkas.
Kaz the Minotaur
As a former champion of the Minotaur arena, Kaz was a respected member of his society.
However, during the Third Dragon War he slew his ogre captain, and fled the army.
Befriended by Huma Dragonbane, Kaz learned the ways of good from his Knightly friend,
becoming perhaps the first minotaur to realize that there is more to life than honor and
conquest of the weak.
Notable Wizards
Fistandantilus
Fistandantilus was the longest-lived human ever. He began his magical career as a Red
Robe, but as he grew old he realized that his life must surely end. He turned to the Dark
Queen so that he might keep his life, draining countless young apprentices of theirs
whenever he needed his youth once again. Fistandantilus was destroyed (in body) at
Skullcap, during the Dwarfgate War, but his spirit kept Raistlin Majere alive
so that he might possess the mage's body some time in the future. His plan failed when
Raistlin traveled back in time and destroyed him.
Par-Salian
One-time leader of the Conclave, Par-Salian recommended that Raistlin Majere take his Test
of High Sorcery early, becoming the youngest magic user ever to take the Test. Par-Salian
sent Crysania, Caramon Majere and Tasslehoff Burrfoot back in time in order to save the
world in the years following the War of the Lance.
Justarius
Justarius led the Conclave for several years after the passing of Par-Salian of the White
Robes. Wearing the Red Robes himself, Justarius had a daughter and lived his life in
Palanthas. He and a small party of other mages attacked Storm's Keep, home of the Knights
of Takhisis shortly before the Second Cataclysm. He -- and several other mages -- perished
in the attempt.
Dalamar the Dark
Dalamar the Dark was Raistlin's only apprentice. Sent by the Conclave to spy on the
archmage's activities, he was discovered and punished by Raistlin for his treachery. While
the desire for revenge is strong, this dark Silvanesti elf respects his master very much.
Dalamar mysteriously disappeared shortly after the Second Cataclysm.
Other People of Krynn
Otik Sandath
The proprietor of the Inn of the Last Home while the companions were young was Otik.
Famous for his spiced potatoes and ale, Otik passed the Inn on to his adopted daughter,
Tika, when she and Caramon returned from the War of the Lance and were married.
Crysania
Crysania was the high priestess of Paladine following the rediscovery of the true gods
after the War of the Lance. She traveled with Raistlin into the Abyss in order to help him
destroy the Dark Queen. When she was wounded, he left her for dead. Caramon Majere rescued
her and brought her back to Krynn, where she rules the Temple of Paladine, following
Elistan's death. Crysania is blind and not found without her seeing-eye-"dog"--a
white bengal tiger.
Theros Ironfeld
Once a simple smith who sympathized with the elves in Solace during the
dragonarmy's invasion, Theros lost his arm due to his "treachery." Theros was
healed by Goldmoon, and later received a silver arm with which the dragonlances were
forged for the battle against the dragonarmies.
Bupu the Gully Dwarf
When the Companions ventured into Xak Tsaroth, Bupu was the gully dwarf most
affected by Raistlin's friends spell, becoming his friend even after the spell's effect
had dissipated. This simple gully dwarf is truly a queen among the creatures, getting her
way whenever she desires.
Porthios Kanan
The oldest son of Solostaran, Speaker of the Suns, Porthios inherited the crown of
Qualinesti after his father left the throne. However, after restoring Silvanesti to its
former majesty and marrying Ahlana Starbreeze, queen of the Silvanesti, he was forced from
the throne by senators of Qualinesti. To this day he is a dark elf, trying to regain his
throne and control over the Qualinesti.
Ahlana Starbreeze
Ahlana is the only daughter of Lorac Caladon, Speaker of the Stars. She gave Sturm
Brightblade a starjewel for his assistance in Tarsis during the war of the Lance, a jewel
which kept Sturm's son from being entirely possessed by the Dark Queen later. She married
Porthios Kanan, Speaker of the Suns, and was outlawed herself when her husband was
overthrown. The two royals have a son, one who will inherit both elven kingdoms should
they ever succeed in reclaiming what is rightfully theirs.
Maquesta Kar-Thon
Few know that Maquesta Kar-Thon is a half elf--the tips of her ears were cut off when she
was young to hide her heritage. The captain of the Perechon, Maquesta assisted the
Companions in their escape from the Blue Lady during the War of the Lance.
Gilthanas Kanan
Gilthanas Kanan is Porthios's younger brother. A dabbler in magic, Gilthanas accompanied
the Companions in the recapture of Pax Tharkas during the War of the Lance. He fell
tragically in love with a silver dragon, disguised as a silver-haired Kagonesti elf.
However, unlike Huma (who fell in love with this particular dragon's sister), he could not
accept her as she truly was. The two beings, dragon and elf, succeeded in convincing the
metallic dragons to join the war when they discovered the corruption of the good dragon
eggs beneath Sanction.
Astinus the Chronicler
The chronicler of Krynn resides in the Great Library of Palanthas, recording the history
of Krynn as it happens. Cold and impersonal, it may be said that Astinus has no feelings
at all, though he has the unique ability of being able to penetrate people's souls and
make them inquire about what they truly feel. It is rumored that Astinus is Gilean's
earthly avatar, but this is just a rumor and has never been confirmed.
Sir Gunthar Uth Wistan
Sir Gunthar Uth Wistan was the commander of the Knights of Solamnia at the time of the War
of the Lance. In addition to being Sturm Brightblade's sponsor, Lord Gunthar rewrote much
of the Measure in order to keep it up to date. Additionally, he became the first Grand
Master since the Cataclysm.
The Fifth Age
Severus Stonehand
Stonehand was a zealot religious fanatic, proclaiming himself the 'Prophet of Reorx,' and
leading any dwarves who would follow out of sealed Thorbardin to reclaim Thoradin. After
he was installed as the High Thane there, Stonehand allied himself with the Knights of
Takhisis.
Belladonna
Born Billee Juniper, Belladonna was a child during Malystyrx's invasion. She
watched her family be destroyed by the great dragon. Now, she leads raids on other
dragons, preparing for the day when she will be strong enough to attack Malystyrx.
Sara Dunstan
The adopted mother of Steel Brightblade lived with the Knights of Takhisis for a time.
After the Second Cataclysm, the founded the Knights of Steel, made up mostly of old
Knights of Solamnia or Takhisis, who realize the line between good and evil is no longer
as easily defined as it once was.
Jasper Fireforge
The nephew of Flint Fireforge went on a missionary quest to Abanasinia, where his uncle
came to him in a dream and instructed him to journey to the Inn of the Last Home. There
Jasper was mortally wounded and cured by the despairing Goldmoon. Since this revelation,
the young dwarf has studied mysticism with Goldmoon.
The Second Generation
Palin Majere
The youngest son of Caramon and Tika Majere is now the most powerful mage on
Krynn. Originally of the White Robes, Palin carried his uncle's staff--the Staff of
Magius--following his Test. After the Second Cataclysm, Palin founded the Academy of
Sorcery, teaching the lost art of magic to the world's mages.
Steel Brightblade
Son of Kitiara Uth-Matar and Sturm Brightblade, Steel joined the Knights of
Takhisis at a young age. Rescued from the Dark Queen's influence by his father's starjewel
and carrying the Brightblade, Steel died in the Battle of the Rift and was buried in the
Last Heroes Tomb.
Usha Majere
Usha Majere is the child of the Irda. Raised by this now forgotten race, Usha was naive in
the ways of the world. She met Palin Majere, and during their travels together helped
defeat Chaos at the Battle of the Rift. Palin and Usha are married and have a daughter,
Linsha, who is a Knight of Solamnia.
Tanin & Sturm Majere
These two are Caramon and Tika's older sons, the first people to become Knights of
Solamnia not of a family in centuries. The two brothers, named for Tanis Half-Elven and
Sturm Brightblade, perished in one of the first battles of the Summer of Chaos.
Moonsong & Brightdawn
Moonsong and Brightdawn, daughters of Riverwind and Goldmoon, traveled with
their father to help the eastern countries of Ansalon against the invasion of Malystyrx.
Brightdawn and her father perished, but Moonsong--though horribly wounded--escaped with
her life. She still bears the scars of dragonfire to this day.
Gilthas Kanan
Tanis Half-Elven and Laurana Kanan had one son together, Gilthas Kanan. When
Porthios was forced off the throne of Qualinesti, the elven senators instead put Gilthas
in his place. Gilthas is a puppet king, not only of the senators but of the Knights of
Takhisis as well.
