Marc Chagall

Lovers in the Lilacs, 1930

Connected with both the Cubists and the Surrealists, Chagall had a vision and style that was quite unique and distinctive. His images of fiddlers, lovers, farmyard animals and peasant villages combine symbols, commentary and private mythology. They're charming, joyous and quirky, and occasionally tragic, and I like them a lot.
