If you are in arrears with them you will receive a statement and penalty for late payment.
If you have paid more then you are legally entitled to
the Agency, then no statement is issued to you and no interest is paid to you.
The Agency has millions of dollars in excess credit sitting in clients accounts. It is a good little earner for the government because while the agency may not receive interest on it,it is held by the Reserve Bank which invests the money in the short market.
So how do you ever find out if they are holding any money that belongs to you. Ring them. But expect to get the run around because if your account is in what they call overpay, then they will try to tell you that they cant refund it to you until the custodial parent has paid it back to them. But the catch is that they take no action to recover the money from the custodialparent.
TRhe amount of excess credit being held by the Agency exceeds $30 million dollars going by what is held by my branch and extrapolated to the 17 branches the agency has.
