Some good news for a change. Let's wait to see how good ...

Two weeks ago, I checked my page, and much to my dismay, almost none of the links on it were working, rendering most of it amazingly useless - a collection of synposes, for articles that couldn't be accessed. I was feeling kind of sick, at that point - a lot of work looked like it was about to go for nothing, especially when one counted pages waiting to go up, and under various stages of construction. The dismay was to deepen over the next few weeks, as the older archives this page draws on, stayed closed, with no timetable for repair in place. A notice on Dejanews' customer support page stated that the archives had been taken down for maintenance (ie.debugging, and upgrading). Fine, but this didn't explain why they had no backup systems running.

What made it really, really frustrating, was that I had been about to start making copies of the most important linked to materials, on my disk space here at Internet Trash, for just such a possibility, and it was like bad luck beat me to the punch. If only I had done it a few days sooner ! I would still have something to show, right ?

This morning I get up, and, wondering why I'm even bothering, check again, as I had each morning over the last two weeks. Finally, links were working. So far, most of what I've looked for has been back up. I just hope the rest of it shows up. In the meanwhile, I will be slowly be making the backup copies that I should have made, in the first place, as time allows. I just hope the archives don't close down again, before I've finished.
