Yesterday, Sept. 7th my friend Chris and I drove about 5 hrs from Marshalltown, IA to Chicago, IL where Coal Chamber, Machinehead, and Slipknot were playing. I think Amen was there too, but we didn't get there soon enough to see them if they were. We stopped at Rolling Stones first to see if we could meet Coal Chamber since they were gonna be there that day, but they were gone, and then we spent too much time driving down Lawrence Avenue which was flooded with dick headed drivers and 99% of the people walking the streets probably couldn't speak english. When we finally got to the Riviera Theatre Slipknot was just a few songs into their set. It sucked we missed the start, butI still got to get up front and see all of my favorites. Chris and I were both exhausted after they were done, so we went and got something to drink and checked out the place before Machinehead started. The place was really pretty cool. Kinda seemed like an opera theatre. It had a balcony which had a really great view, and then the floor where there was a bar in back, and a sort of "calm" section, a dropped down level where things were really going nuts. We worked our way back up front for Machinehead, and they put on a great show. I spent most of my time trying to weasle my way to the front row so I could have a clear view for Coal Chamber. I finally managed to get there and was having a great time watching Machinehead until some fat ass, perverted security guard decided that one of the nasty, probably fat and worthless, hopeless trendy goth bitches up there that he had probably fallen in love with was getting too scrunched, and pushed like 3 of us back to make room. It was fucked up, for the rest of the night it was worthless trying, since coal chamber was coming, and the front was scrunched up so tightly. I managed to get so there was only about 1 person in front of me, and kept up a fight for my spot. Soon someone came out, I think it was Meegs (you couldn't see because the curtain was still down) and asked us if we were ready to go off. I have to say he got a good response, so he said he was gonna go get everyone else, and then they'd start. A few minutes later, the curtain rose, and there was Coal Chamber. They put on a kick ass show, and played all the good old shit like loco, sway, which the singer from Machinehead sang with Dez for a while, clock, big truck, and pig, and played some songs of the new album which was just released that day. It was great seeing Dez in such a great mood after seeing him and Meegs go off in Kansas City and cancel their show because the promoters had the thing all fucked up. The entire band was really into it, and I had a great time going off with them. This was the first time I actually got to see an entire Coal Chamber set, we only caught their last couple songs at Ozzfest in '98, and it definately worth the long drive home that night. I'm definately there when Coal Chamber comes around again, and I must say the same for Slipknot of course, and Machinehead.
