The Children of Jeremiah Patterson
and Mariamne Brooks Cheuvront

Jeremiah Patterson Cheuvront and Mariamne Brooks were married Feb 24, 1857, at West Milford, West Virginia.  Their children were:

1: BOYD  BROOKS Cheuvront, born at West Milford on Feb 24, 1858, and died at the Cheuvront farm with Dyptheria, Dec. 29, 1871.  He was a fiddler and his violin hung just where he placed it for almost seven years until the family house burned down Dec. 8, 1878.  It had never been touched after he'd hung it up.

2: CHARLES ELLSWORTH Cheuvront, born at West Milford, Aug. 17, 1859, died at the Cheuvront farm with "dropsy" [probably heart failure] and rheumatism on Nov. 20, 1873. [Dr. Alexander Austin, the family physician said, "Charley, you are dying now, would you like me to pray with you?" He agreed, and at the conclusion of the prayer, when asked if he was suffering much, Charley's last words were "Not yet."]

3: VIRGINIA ELLEN Cheuvront was born Sep. 30, 1861, and married William Edward Hacker on Apr. 28, 1888.  They had nine children, one of whom, Rebecca Hacker, was struck by lightning when she was just three years old. Most noted among their descendants is the family of F. Dorsey and Blanche Hacker Bartlett, whose son Joe Bartlett was Chief Page at the RNC in Philadelphia in June, 1948.

4: REBECCA JUDITH Cheuvront was born Aug. 23, 1863,and married John Adams VanScoy on Nov. 16, 1884.  She died Feb. 2, 1938, and had six sons and one daughter.  Some of their descendants are: Prof. Arlot K. VanScoy of the Potomac State School, Keyser, WVa, Howard VanScoy, former Superintendant of Harrison Co. WVa schools, Maude VanScoy, a teacher.  All of the VanScoy children were teachers at one time.

5: MARY SAMANTHA Cheuvront was born Nov. 9, 1865, and married Charles Dennis Johnston, a native of Clarksburg, at Brooks Hill in Upshur Co. on Feb. 1, 1896.  Mary Samantha (Mattie) died Dec. 3, 1943.  She had eight children.

6: JOSEPH BENSON Cheuvront was born Jan. 31, 1868, and died suddenly at his home in Owensboro, KY. on Nov. 16, 1929.  He married Oma McGarvey, from NY, at Mannington, WVa. on Sept. 23, 1896, and they had four children:  Uriel Cheuvront, from Winchester, KY, who married Deane Russell and had twelve children; Evelyn Cheuvront, who married Fred H. Buchanan of Campbellsville, KY.; John William Cheuvront, a painter and orchestra leader from Columbus, OH.

7: JULIA ANN Cheuvront was born Feb. 25, 1870 and died at her home in Morgantown WVa. on Aug. 24, 1929.  She was married to Albert Kennie Miller on Nov. 12, 1896, at Brooks Hill near Alexander, WVa., where A.K. Miller owned a general store.  Dr. Dan Westfall officiated at their wedding.  They had seven children: Dwight, Ruth, John, Hoyt Myron Brooks, Worth, Lois, and Albert Kenneth Miller.  Myron Brooks died in infancy and Ruth, an unusually brilliant girl, died just at adulthood.  Julie Ann is buried in a Morgantown cemetery.

8: JOHN RICHARD Cheuvront was born Feb. 24, 1872.  He married Dora Ellen Jones of Logansport, IN, on Jun.3, 1908.  They had one son Brooks K. Cheuront, of Neville's Island, Pittsburg, PA.  Brooks had two children, Richard Cheuvront and Jo Ellen Cheuvront.  He was a retired Methodist minister.

9.  WILLIAM HORNER Cheuvront was born Jan 23, 1874, and died in his home on the corner of S. 5th and Wilson St., Clarksburg, WVa. June 26, 1950.  He married Ellen Medora Parsons, a voice teacher, on Dec. 25, 1900.  He was a carpenter by trade and a very strict tither, faithfully giving to God one-tenth of his income, meanwhile boasting that he had more calls for work than he could possibly keep up with.  He had an unbroken Sunday School attendance record up till the last years of his life.  He is buried in the Bridgeport, WVa Cemetery where he had purchased a lot and gravemarkers for himself and his wife's family well in advance.  They had no children.

10: MAUDE SARAH Cheuvront was born July 25, 1876 and died with spinal meningitis on Mar. 20, 1893. [W.L. notes that she had been keeping books for William Price, a lumberman, at the time of her death, and when she was gone an  auditor who went over them was unable to find errors of any kind.  Although she was not quite seventeen, she had seemed much older.  The family remembered her as being an accomplished musician.

11:  REV. WESLEY LAKIN Cheuvront was born May 12, 1879, and died of Multiple Sclerosis in 1956.  He married E. May Kreemer of Buckhannon on June 1, 1910.  She was born Mar. 7, 1887, the daughter of Albert Crawford and Florence May Parsons Kreemer of Romney, WVa.  W.L. and his wife had six children.
