Several of us in the Elsworth (Ellsworth) family have not been able to verify the work of German Ellsworth regarding some points by checking original sources. For example, we have not been able to find any "Eeltown" in Cambridgshire; however, there is an "Elsworth" and it has records and a modern day web page. There is no record of an Elsworth coat of arms being entered in Burke's or other armorial records. The only mention of an Elsworth in Burke's is that Anne, the daughter of John Elsworth, London, married a son of the noble Graham family.

Many of the Elsworths in New York City during the colonial period are descended from a branch of the family that left England for religious reasons, settled briefly in the Netherlands and emigrated to Neuw Amsterdam (later New York.)
