out on a scout today and will not return for 2 nights

times are dull as usual - my patient is some

nothing unusual - the scout returned without
doing anything - my patient is sinking as fast as frost - and he cannot
last long

this is a chilly cool day - the North wind
blows cold and everything looks gloomy and dreary - my patient died this
evening at 4 o'clock - he remained insensible to the last it is a solemn
scene to look upon a mortal leave this world and more so when he is insensible
to his condition and to be away from friends of kindred - but we all have
the monster to face in some shape or other and at some time - they took
his remains to his home which was on the waters of French Creek in Upshur
County

today I took a walk in the woods - I enjoyed
the walk very much and the autumnal frost cutting down the leaves and their
drying of causes a dreary feeling to pervade my mind and make me think
of home and friends that are dear to me.

and gloomy to me - today I went to Sutton and while I was there I assisted
in a post mortem examination - there was a soldier died last night and
the board concluded to make a examination - he died with congestion of
the brain - when we got done the wagon was gone and I had to go home alone
- but I get through without any trouble

This is a cool and chilly day and this is
the election day and we all have a vote - there is three candidates for
congress - Haman Ferost and Blare Frost got the majority - we all voted
for the division of the state except 5 of the boys and they were hard customers
as we have in the company

we had a big frost this morning and the vegetation
is all killed

nothing unusual today - there was a scout
sent out this evening

this is a day of gloom

the scouts returned but they did not do anything

today we sent a squad to meet the paymaster
and to see if they could find the house there is that attacked the train
at Jackson's Mill on last Friday night - they took all the train which
amounted to 14 head of horses - they wounded 2 of the drivers but not serious
