Friday the 4 
     dull as usual - I am getting as much practice as I can 

Saturday the 5 
     some of the boys have been put on double duty for disobeying orders 

Sunday the 6 
     nothing unusual today 

Monday the 7 
     one of my boys is very bad 

Tuesday the 8 
     Gustave is getting worse - he is deranged all the time 

Wednesday the 9 
     nothing of importance - there is a squad going out on a scout today and will not return for 2 nights 

Thursday the 10 
     times are dull as usual - my patient is some easier today 

Friday the 11 
     nothing unusual - the scout returned without doing anything - my patient is sinking as fast as frost - and he cannot last long 

Saturday the 12 
     this is a chilly cool day - the North wind blows cold and everything looks gloomy and dreary - my patient died this evening at 4 o'clock - he remained insensible to the last it is a solemn scene to look upon a mortal leave this world and more so when he is insensible to his condition and to be away from friends of kindred - but we all have the monster to face in some shape or other and at some time - they took his remains to his home which was on the waters of French Creek in Upshur County 

Sunday the 13 
     today I took a walk in the woods - I enjoyed the walk very much and the autumnal frost cutting down the leaves and their drying of causes a dreary feeling to pervade my mind and make me think of home and friends that are dear to me.

     nothing going on today the Lieutenant - Cor (next page repeat) Cor Thomson has got the typhoid fever and has gone up to the Rayes to stay during his sickness

     nothing going on 

Saturday the 19 
     dull as usual - there is a number of our men sick - for the cam is very muddy and disagreeable 

Sunday the 20 
     this is a cool and humid atmosphere today and we all feel bad

Monday the 21 
     today is dull as usual today 

Tuesday the 22 
     this is a nice day and we have nothing to do 

Wednesday the 23 
     today it is raining again and the air cool and gloomy to me - today I went to Sutton and while I was there I assisted in a post mortem examination - there was a soldier died last night and the board concluded to make a examination - he died with congestion of the brain - when we got done the wagon was gone and I had to go home alone - but I get through without any trouble 

Thursday the 24 
     This is a cool and chilly day and this is the election day and we all have a vote - there is three candidates for congress - Haman Ferost and Blare Frost got the majority - we all voted for the division of the state except 5 of the boys and they were hard customers as we have in the company 

Friday the 25 
     we had a big frost this morning and the vegetation is all killed 

Saturday the 26 
     nothing unusual today - there was a scout sent out this evening 

Sunday the 27 
     this is a day of gloom 

Monday the 28 
     the scouts returned but they did not do anything 

Tuesday the 29 
     today we sent a squad to meet the paymaster and to see if they could find the house there is that attacked the train at Jackson's Mill on last Friday night - they took all the train which amounted to 14 head of horses - they wounded 2 of the drivers but not serious 

Wednesday the 30 
     nothing has occurred today out of place 

Thursday the 31 
     we have not heard of our squad yet 

November the 1st (November, 1861) 
     nothing of importance today the air is cold and I think we will have snow 

Saturday the 2 
     it has been raining again 

Sunday the 3 
     it is still raining and is turning cold 

Monday the 4 
     it is quite cool and disagreeable our scouts have not come back yet

     nothing of importance today

     this is a nice day - clear and warm
