Foreword

The privately published book A Brief History of the Cheuvront Family In America by John Howard Cheuvront and W.L. Cheuvront is only meant to be a stepping stone for information on the Cheuvront & Cookman families. The information found on this site is a continuation of the wonderful start John Howard and W.L. made, since the interviews with family members they have so graciously shared with us have in themselves been an inspiration.  The additional information which we add to their text has been gathered from many sources, both published (that seems to confirm as often as it brings up more questions) and unpublished.  Much of the most useful information (and the most heart-warming) has been graciously provided by other researchers.   Words cannot express our thanks at their generosity.

from A Brief History of the Cheuvront Family In America
This brief history of the Cheuvront Family was compiled through the efforts of J. Howard Cheuvront and the late Rev. Wesley L. Cheuvront.  Shirley Cheuvront Ericson was very pleased to be invited to serve as editor of the manuscript.  This first edition was published in Phoenix, Arizona in August of 1972.  It was printed in the hope that it will give pleasure to the family about whom it is written and offense to no one; and in the belief that all families have the need to know of and take pride in their heritage.  Our special thanks go to all those in the family who were willing to take time to find and give information to help make it as complete as possible.  If any information is erroneous of if any has been left out (as no doubt has happened) we assure you that it was unintentional.

It is our hope that future generations will add to this volume to keep the chronicle intact.

[The] first portion of the family history was prepared by the late Rev. Wesley Lakin Cheuvront in 1950.  It was his interest in the chronology of the family that led to his contacting J. Howard Cheuvront in 1935 about the descendants of George Cheuvront.  This in turn aroused an interest in the history of the family in J. Howard Cheuvront and ultimately led to the printing of this document.

Rev. Wesley L. Cheuvront died in 1956 of Multiple Sclerosis.
