When I was about 14; I "borrowed" a set
of oil paints my older brother had received as a present several years
prior (and never used). Haven't stopped painting since. My style has changed,
hopefully my ability has grown, and even today if given my druthers..it
is what I prefer doing. There is something marvellous about picking
up a brush to start painting..only to "come to" hours later and be
amazed at what time it is. This fluid melding of soul and canvas in that
netherland headspace is the most rewarding feeling of the process. Mind
you praise and appreciation by others of the finished "work" t'aint so
bad a feeling either. The ego must be fed.
I have no formal training in art..it all just
flows naturally. It's not something I can explain to others ; cause colour
and depth just "happen" I don't plan it.
For years I was hooked on water colours, small
, marvellous detailled flowers, scenery etc. Lately I seem to be
making a swing into larger canvasses and acryllic as a medium.
Not that I don't plan to do any more watercolours; one just has to follow
the impulses.
Over the next while I'll be inserting some of
both my present and earlier work here. So please check back often to see
what I've been doing.

This was one of my very first water colours.. done by religeously
following instructions in a "How To" book. Obviously I must have enjoyed
the process as did hardly anything but watercolours for about 20 years.
10 x 12"

Learning to do some outdoors painting like this view of St.Patricks,
Newfoundland was another added joy. Again this is early in my learning
stages.
I look at these now and see all the things I could fix..but..they were
part of the journey; and at the time I did do them I thought I was coming
along great..and that is all that matters. 9 x 11"

This is one of Tom's favorites; from a crisp early autumn mornings sojourn
with the canoe..I call it "Morning Mist" It is 11 x 14"
