I knew John Lange had married Shania and wondered whether this was the same Mutt Lange I knew from my school days and it is.

The bits of his biography in your web page states that he comes from Belfast in South Africa. Actually, he comes from Zimbabwe ( used to be known as Rhodesia ) and was at Guinea Fowl High School outside Gwelo where we played in the same cricket team. He was the "opening bowler" in our team as he had a fast delivery. After 2 years there we both were sent by our parents to complete our high schooling in South Africa at Belfast High School. ( It took us about 2 days by train to get to boarding school from Zimbabwe to South Africa) There he developed his interest in guitar playing and did sing a bit but not always on key!

Throughout his high school days he was always quiet and reserved but not withdrawn.

Several of us formed a rock band for a short while ( I have no idea what we called ourselves any more ) and our lead singer and lead guitarist ( Roland Deal ) went on to make a few records in South Africa and became a commercial artist, Mutt played rhythm and harmonized with Roland, the 2 of them taught me to play a base guitar as they needed one ( I went on to complete medicine and later emigrated to Canada - was and am still a useless musician ) and the drummer ( James Borthwick ) I think ended up in the South African Broadcasting Corporation.

Even back then he said he was going to produce records and write music and we all thought "Oh yeah, yeah". Little did we know how successful he would become.

I am sure that all of us who knew him as a teenager are pleased that he achieved so many of his goals.
