Dancer In The Dark was awful, but only because of the fantasy sing-&-dance numbers which were godawful. If you skip over those, then the movie improves dramatically from "awful" to "very good." 

I've been enjoying my freedom from the scene for the past couple of weeks. It's wonderful.
