I was in the lab but it was all wrong. The different labs were housed in unconnected buildings, rectangular one-story structures that were built on sand dunes. There was a cool breeze suggesting we were near the ocean. We were in the process of relocating and half of the equipment and personnel were already gone. The ones who still remained were just finishing up on a few tests on the last samples before packing up their stuff. NH was there but she didn't seem to be pregnant. I wasn't entirely sure we were just moving like we had been told... no one had seen the president in a quite a while. It felt as if they were really shutting down the lab and we were all going to be out jobs shortly. Our future was uncertain. I was talking to GX on the edge of a sloping cliff. It was a long drop but I wasn't scared because it was all sand. I thought I wouldn't really get hurt if I fell. I was kicking sand over the edge and somebody said I was liable to start an avalanche (of sand) if I kept doing that. A small crowd had gathered in one of the buildings. I asked someone what was going on but the man was a foreigner and I didn't understand a word he said. Then someone told me: KW and CW's baby (apparently they had one) had a terrible accident. KW was doing laundry and had left the baby for a minute to take a basket of clothes back in the house. The baby started yanking the washing machine's power chord and it fell on him. He was crushed to death. Everyone was devastated by this tragedy. I went to their house to offer my condolence but they very deep in mourning and still in shock so I didn't even come in. I just watered their plants instead. - - - - I was watching this like a movie: There was a boy waiting for his friends in a restaurant. It was in an old building like the kind they have in New Orleans. There were tables inside and on the porch outside which was surrounded by wrought iron railings with fancy scroll work. It was partly under the shade of a big tree. The boys never used the front door, preferring instead to leapfrog over the iron railing which was slightly electrified and so they always got a little shock. The boys were seated in one of the tables. A waiter brought them their food but no one ate. The first boy (who was sometimes the narrator/voice-over) sat in the middle. The one on his left was his boyfriend who was treating him badly. The one on his right was someone he just met who was good to him. They were there to settle things. The boy took out a small silver box, a gift, and gave it to the one on the right. The one on the left took this to mean that the boy was staying with him. But it was the opposite. It was like a Jerry Springer show without the histrionics. The food they ordered, three pieces of toast, started to sizzle and melt. Just before they completely lost their form I noticed that they were in the shape of stylized erections. Voice-over: "And then it happened..." The boys started to sizzle (noiselessly) and melt. It wasn't a horror movie kind of melting-- there was no blood or mutilated flesh involved. They weren't in any pain. They looked like dolls. Maybe they were dolls. The one on the left melted completely leaving a shapeless yellow mass. The other two were only partially melted and their eyes were completely untouched. No one died. Voice-over: "In fact, he [the one on the left] just had to reform himself on the other side." ...
the 'other side' being some kind of dimension at right angle to ours.
