RIP Dee Dee Ramone

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – Punk rock pioneer Dee Dee Ramone died at his Los Angeles home Wednesday night at the age of 49, and police are now investigating the death as a possible drug overdose. It’s a sad end to the man Rolling Stone once called “the most legitimate punk in the Ramones,” and who seemed ready to leave his drug problems behind in recent years. In an October 2000 interview with Wireless Flash, Dee Dee said, “If I am the No. 1 punk, I can’t live up to it. There’s no way. I’m not gonna do that. I’ve tried to leave all that in the past. I just want to be cool, look cool, be rock ‘n’ roll. But I don’t want to shoot dope or hurt people and lie and be foolish.” Dee Dee was also a writer who published the 2001 novel Chelsea Horror Hotel and an autobiography, Lobotomy: Surviving The Ramones in 2000. But in the same Wireless Flash interview, he admitted that he wouldn’t have those opportunities without the Ramones.
