Harry Potter Does Disappearing Act In New Zealand

ROTORUA, New Zealand (Wireless Flash) – Several Harry Potter fans in Rotorua, New Zealand, literally drew a blank when they tried to watch their recently-purchased copies of the video. That’s because all 500 Potter tapes shipped to the local Whitcoulls bookstore were entirely blank. Although many video store employees dressed up as witches to help hype Potter’s video release, no one was able to conjure up the missing footage, forcing all copies to be recalled in Rotorua. Warner Brothers has since replaced the cassettes and says the snafu was an inadvertent “quality control failure.” But some aren’t so sure. Whitcoulls marketing manager Justin Boyes says some of his fellow Kiwis think Warners purposely sent defective tapes to New Zealand because execs are mad the New Zealand-filmed Lord Of The Rings got better reviews than Potter.
