Sweatin’ To The Way Oldies: ‘Shakespeare Aerobics’

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) – Shakespeare’s plays give brains a good workout – but starting next Wednesday (June 5), they’ll be exercising bodies as well. The New York Classical Theatre will stage a production of Twelfth Night in Central Park that can only be described as “Shakespeare Aerobics.” At the end of each scene, actors will sprint off to another part of the park – and audiences are expected to follow. This is the fourth year director Stephen Burdman has staged the free performances in New York, and he says the movement of the play really keeps audiences interested. But you don’t have to be in great shape to do “Shakespeare Aerobics” – Burdman says one of the show’s most fanatical fans is a 93-year-old woman. Twelfth Night runs from June 5 to June 29 and the company will also stage The Taming of the Shrew in August.
