‘Poseidon People’ As Obsessed As Trekkies

LONG BEACH, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – Star Wars isn’t the only film that attracts obsessives – the 1972 disaster film The Poseidon Adventure does too. In fact, the film has its own cult – the Poseidon Adventure Fan Club – with 149 card-carrying members. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film on June 1 the club will indoctrinate new members aboard the Queen Mary luxury liner in Long Beach, California – which was used as the Poseidon in the movie. Club president Jack Castro says what the club lacks in size it makes up for in passion. For instance, cults have developed around Poseidon extras who don’t have any lines in the film, such as one woman known only as “India Lady.” Even stranger: Some fans won’t watch the movie unless they’re wearing a tuxedo or evening gown – like the film’s victims.
