Ice Cream Man Sails The High Seas

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) – Most ice cream men drive big white, boat-like vans – but there’s one in New York that’s using a real boat. Russ L’Hommedieu – who calls himself “the Good Humor guy of the seven seas” – sells homemade ice cream pops to boaters and sunbathers along Long Island’s coast via a 19-foot aluminum motor boat. Unlike your friendly, neighborhood ice cream man, Captain Russ’ dinghy isn’t equipped with a PA system to play traditional ice cream truck tunes – so he compensates by performing stand-up comedy after tossing customers their ice cream. Russ’ background is in stand-up comedy and he says the only audience harder to win over than “a bar full of drunks,” is a cove full of hot, hungry bathers waiting to get their paws on an ice cream pop. In his words, “The heckling can get really, really bad.”
