Gynecologist: Many Moms Are Flubbing The Birds and the Bees

PELHAM, N.Y. (Wireless Flash) – You’ve come a long way, baby – but you still need to learn how to talk about sex with your daughter. That’s according to a New York-based gynecologist who says many moms are flubbing how they teach their daughters about the birds and the bees. Dr. Hilda Hutcherson, author of What Your Mother Never Told You About Sex (G.P. Putnam’s Sons), says one mistake moms make is using silly names to refer to genitals. She says words like “privates” or “stink hole” make girls feel their sex organs are unmentionable and dirty, a bad message which can lead to sexual hang-ups later on in life – including promiscuity. The solution: Dr. Hutcherson says moms should teach their daughters about all aspects of sexuality, using the correct, anatomical terms.
