Artist: New Yorkers Are Back to Being Unfriendly
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Wireless Flash) New York experienced a sense of unity following Sept 11. but a lot of people are now wondering if its gone. Well, Brooklyn-based performance artist Carrie Dashow says Yes and she has proof. Back 1999, Dashow set out to say hello to and get hellos back from a million people. Most of the time, those hellos werent exactly easy to get from grumpy workaholic New Yorkers. However, Dashow says as soon as Sept. 11 happened, New York was in a state of euphoria and everyone she met returned her hellos and many of them even struck up neighborly conversations. However, nine months later, Dashow says the euphorias faded, though she cant figure out whether the friendliness of the city has gone back to normal or whether its gotten even worse.
