Chumbawamba Okays ‘Tubthumping’ for ‘Simpsons’ Episode

LEEDS, England (Wireless Flash) – The Simpsons is doing something few have done before – altering the lyrics to Chumbawamba’s 1997 hit song “Tubthumping.” Sunday’s (May 12) episode will feature Homer singing the song with some new lyrics: I take a whiskey drink/I take a chocolate drink/and when I have to pee/I use the kitchen sink. It’s unusual that the British rock group is allowing someone to use the tune with altered lyrics, says band member Danbert Nobacon, who says most “other versions are so terrible.” That includes one revision from a Hungarian version of The Smurfs and a group of Norwegians who dress up as Vikings and trill the tune. So why allow The Simpsons to change the song? Nobacon says the band empathized with the new version, claiming there were times they were so drunk they peed in a sink or closet too.
