Dog Has Bone to Pick With Dog-Named Sports Teams

SARASOTA, Fla. (Wireless Flash) – Native Americans aren’t the only ones on the warpath over sports teams named after them – now dogs are too. A four-year-old Papillon named Genevieve and her master, Dennis Fried, are starting a campaign to change all the names of sports teams with canine- related nicknames. Fried says the issue is one of “cultural sensitivity.” He claims his dog objects to calling a team the “timberwolves” or the “bulldogs” because “silly humans running around chasing a ball is a violation of every dog’s civil rights.” He says his dog also dislikes the way humans use dog language like “dogging it,” “doggone” and “bitch.” So what should sports teams be named then? Fried says Genevieve doesn’t mind the use of “wildcats” or “bulls” because it’s up to them to fight their own battles.
