Natalie Portman Wants Peace in the Middle East and in Galaxies Far, Far Away

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Wireless Flash) – In Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Natalie Portman’s character becomes a peace-crusading interplanetary senator. Now, Portman is showing her own diplomatic streak in a letter to her college newspaper, the Harvard Crimson, that calls for peace in the Middle East. The Israeli-born actress writes: [I] hope that we may someday use our unique human assets of language and empathy rather than military technology or propaganda to resolve this conflict. Interestingly, Portman’s Episode II character, Senator Amidala, conveys the same sentiment in a speech she gives in the film: If you offer the separatists violence, they can only show us violence in return. Many will lose their lives. All will lose their freedom. So, does this mean Portman is considering becoming a real-life diplomat? Not likely. The actress has said she wants to be a doctor like her father.
