Michigan Woman Starts ‘The Great American Grump-Out’

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Wireless Flash) – You’ve heard of the Great American Smoke Out? Well, a woman in Kalamazoo, Michigan, is starting the Great American Grump-Out. Stress management expert Janice Hathy says grumpiness is a national epidemic and wants Americans to abstain from being crabby for one whole day – May 22, 2002, to be precise. She says some of the biggest grumpiness culprits are snooty salesclerks, road ragers and stress-filled workplaces. To help stomp out the grouchiness, Hathy will be coordinating “drive- by smilings” where folks drive around flashing smiley faces at angry drivers. She also wants folks to pay “Frown Fines” if they’re caught being unhappy and make crabby co-workers don “Crab Hats” whenever they complain. Hathy hopes this first Great American Grump Out is such a success it becomes an annual event.
