Lounge Singer Jazzes Up Hip-Hop

TORONTO (Wireless Flash) – Think the term “rap music” is an oxymoron? A Canadian lounge singer may change your mind. Toronto-based lounge singer Jaymz Bee says many people miss the beautiful melodies and emotional lyrics found in songs like “Gin And Juice” by Snoop Dogg or Sisqo’s “Thong Song.” However, Bee’s new CD, Sub Urban, features swinging remakes of rap songs that might make Frank Sinatra swoon, such as a bossa nova version of Nelly Furtado’s “Turn Off The Light” and a version of OutKast’s “Ms. Jackson,” arranged like the New Vaudeville Band’s 1966 No. 1 “Winchester Cathedral.” Bee thinks Missy Elliot, Dr. Dre and Nelly will realize his cocktail covers are sincere but says his record company was so worried about the reaction from Ludacris that it refused to release his version of “Gimme Some More,” because it was sung by a Herve Villachaize impersonator.
