Meet ‘Schmelvis’ - The Jewish Elvis Impersonator

MONTREAL, Can. (Wireless Flash) – Elvis Presley may have sang “Crying In the Chapel” but a Canadian Elvis impersonator who calls himself “Schmelvis,” thinks the King was really Jewish. Schmelvis – who is also known as Dan Hartal – says he has evidence that the King’s great-great grandmother was Jewish and, as a child, he had an orthodox rabbi as a neighbor. That’s not all. The King used to lap up matzo ball soup like a hound dog. However, Schmelvis says the two things which really convinced him Elvis was Jewish were he had a nose job and his mother wanted him to be a doctor. “What more do you need?,” asks Schmelvis. Schmelvis is so convinced the King has Yiddish roots that he recently visited Jerusalem and Graceland with a film crew for a new documentary, Schmelvis: Searching For The King’s Jewish Roots that premieres April 20 at the Toronto Jewish Film Festival.
