Dave Matthews Cover Band Wants to Stop Playing Dave Matthews Songs

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Wireless Flash) – They may have made their name as a Dave Matthews Band cover act, but now the members of Rochester, New York’s Tripping Billies say they want to ditch the Matthews songs. Tripping Billies singer Brandon DePaul says “We still think Dave is really cool, but we’re trying to become our band, with our own songs, and not ride on anybody’s shirt tails.” DePaul says he first decided to rebel against being a cover band when he realized that wearing a copy of Matthews’ trademark pajama pants on stage was “silly and fake.” Tripping Billies is still playing all-Matthews sets during their current tour, but DePaul hopes that within six months, it’ll all be original material.
