CAROL CHANNING: ‘I’M A PROSTITUTE’

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – Stage actress Carol Channing has a shocking confession to make: “I’ve been prostituting myself since the fourth grade.” The 80-year-old Hello Dolly star explains she’s been prostituting herself her entire career, because – in her words – “I always make love to the audience.” Channing’s candid comment may seem out of character, but she says she’s had a lot of time to reflect on her career recently: She’s spent the last six weeks recovering from a spill which left her with a fractured elbow, chipped shoulder and broken ribs. Now, Channing says she’s feeling better every day, but a nagging cough has kept her sore ribs from healing. However, Channing says the show must go on, and on January 28 she will make her first public appearance since her accident: Presenting a Lifetime Achievement Award to fellow thespian Isabel Stevenson in New York.
