7-FOOT-TALL ARTIST SPECIALIZES IN LARD SCULPTURES

NEWCASTLE (Wireless Flash) – A seven-foot-tall artist in Newcastle, England, has a fat advantage over fellow artists: He sculpts with lard. 7-foot, 2-inch Gary Tiplady has been sculpting with lard for nearly 20 years, and his statues have captured everything from eagles and race horses to sports cars. In the process, the Crisco creations have become a big fat hit with folks like Queen Elizabeth. Tiplady says lard is easier to work with than stone and doesn’t melt like ice. Even more amazing: Lard statues don’t smell and can last years with proper care. Tiplady gets about $250 for each of his “lard works,” and hopes to one day get the chance to make instructional videos for folks who want to make their own lard statues at home.
